Preservation Durham’s enthusiastic and well-informed volunteer tour guides will lead you through the history of the tobacco industry as they tell many tales from Durham’s past, using oral histories and photographs to illustrate the history of tobacco and the people who supplied tobacco products known throughout the world. The tour includes descriptions of life in the factories and at home for the thousands of workers who made the Bull City one of the biggest industrial cities in the South as well as those who, like guitarist John Dee Holeman, trekked to Durham’s tobacco auctions to play the blues.
*** Note: the specific walking tour offered is dependent on the availability of Preservation Durham Guides. If the tour itinerary changes, registrants will be able to cancel at no penalty.***
*** Note: A minimum of 10 and a maximum of 20 can be accommodated on this tour. Failure to meet the minimum will require us to cancel the tour. Early booking recommended. ***
Cancellation Policy: Tours are fully refundable until June 1, 2024. If you cancel after June 1, 2024 up to 72 hours before the event, you will be refunded your payment less a cancellation administrative fee of up to $25 (depending on the cost of the event). Cancellations received within the 72-hour period prior to the tour are non-refundable. This tour may be transferred to another convention attendee at no charge.
