Getting Around

Getting to/from Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU)

Option 1: GoTriangle Bus

GoTriangle buses stop at each terminal every 30 min. daytimes & every 60 min. evenings. Take the RDU Shuttle or Route #100 bus to the Regional Transit Center (make sure that the #100 is going to the Transit Center, NOT to Raleigh). Buses are timed for easy connections at the Transit Center on the hour and half-hour. At the Regional Transit Center, make a down the platform transfer to the #700 bus that runs almost non-stop to Downtown Durham. Exit at Durham Station (bus terminal). The hotels are a 5-12 min. walk, depending on the hotel.
Fares (as of 2022): $2.25 (ask for a free transfer on boarding the 1st bus). Seniors (65+) ride free; show a government-issued ID with birthdate or Medicare card upon boarding. Time from RDU to Downtown Durham: ~40 min. Note that the last bus that will get you to Durham leaves the airport about 10 pm. Visit https://gotriangle.org/ for more information about GoTriangle buses.

Option 2: Uber, Lyft, or Taxi

This is the easiest, fastest, and most expensive option.
Fare: $25-45, depending on the size of vehicle, time of day, and demand. Time from RDU to Downtown Durham: ~25-30 min

Getting Around Durham

Buses

GoDurham (https://godurhamtransit.org/) operates a system of buses in Durham that can get visitors to most points of interest. Most routes operate every 30 minutes during the day and every 60 min. evenings. GoDurham buses operate on a timed transfer system – almost all routes depart from the Downtown Transit Center (Durham Station) on the hour and the half-hour, so it is possible to transfer between any 2 routes. GoDurham buses are Purple/blue and gray.
Fares (as of 2022): Single-ride: $1.00; Day-Pass (needed to transfer): $2.00; Seniors (65+) ride free with proof of age.

Duke University Transit (https://parking.duke.edu/buses) operates buses on and around its campuses and connecting remote office and parking lots with the Duke University Hospital. When sightseeing on campus, visitors may find the C1: East-West route most useful. This route connects Duke’s Gothic West Campus (where Duke Chapel and Sarah P. Duke Gardens are located) to its Georgian East Campus; the bus also has a stop near the Nasher Museum of Art.
Fares: Duke buses are white and blue and are free to all riders.
